LONDON — The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization has updated its "Blue Book" statistics, shown in a spreadsheet on its website. The spreadsheet now shows both actual and three-month moving average data for July and August 2008.
WSTS claims to have 70 member companies that represent close to 80 percent of the world's semiconductor sales. The pooling of their sales data by the independent WSTS is believed to provide the best means to estimate global sales. Some 22 years of historical data both actual and the three-month moving average (3MMA) are available at www.wsts.org
Since EE Times Europe posted a story stating that the spreadsheet was not being updated on Oct. 10, Hartwin Breitenbach of WSTS has written to say the organization has not stopped updating the historical billings summary report. "This report continues to be available to the public at the web location http://www.wsts.org/public/files/bbhist-22.xls," he wrote.
Breitenbach said there was no particular date in the month when the spreadsheet was updated and that a problem could occur with proxy servers not recognizing that the spreadsheet had been updated. "As we retain the same document name throughout the year, some proxy servers with very conservative configuraton may not recognize that this document was reissued and what you see would be an older version. You may always bypass cached versions by pressing Ctrl + F5 (Internet Explorer and Firefox Browser)," Breitenbach said in the correspondence.
